She is the key is the new Initiative in the Balkans aiming to assist the young girls and women of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Serbia unlocking their potential.

She is the Key is a connection programme that will be launched at the Balkan’s Conference on Women and their Vital Role in the Society and it will be a first in Albania and unique in the region as a whole. This programme aims to encourage women leaders in business, politics, media, NGOs and other corporations to commit to mentor/train young aspiring girls and women for a set period of time. After completion of the mentorship both sides will be able to share their experience through this website.

The documented experience of the girls will also encourage their peers to seek opportunities that they thought were beyond their reach. We will also encourage the girls that have completed the mentoring programme to take part in peer to peer mentoring to spread the knowledge and skills they have acquired to others through works shop activities.

Our target is to assist 1 million girls and women in the Balkans to benefit from networking and the mentorship programmes Use She is the Key to open as many doors as possible.

Here will be posted all the ideas, stories, mentorship, scholarships, employment opportunities and projects that girls and women, small and large businesses, governmental bodies and NGOs in the Balkans would like to share.

A girl that just graduated from University and needs to explore her internship employment options.

A woman owning a small farm in need of a micro loan.

A girl or woman in need of business advice.

A woman sharing her success story hence contributing in motivating and inspiring other girls and women.

These are some of the examples on how the girls can network, exchange ideas and stories in order to help one another.

1. Women economic empowerment
There is a direct correlation between investment in women and girls and poverty alleviation, a lessening of government corruption, and greater general prosperity.

The aim of this conference is to explore the opportunities in leadership and skills training for entrepreneurs and leaders in business because women are powerful engines of economic growth and social change. Hence we are planning on establishing collaborations between the already successful women entrepreneurs to support/mentor/provide ideas and opportunities to smaller businesses run by women e.g. enterprises in the creative industry such as handicrafts etc.

2. Human Rights
Every day women in Eastern Europe are subjected to violence in its many forms: human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual violence. As long as violence against women continues, women’s human rights are restricted. This conference aims to:

1. Raise issue of concern
2. Promote effective policies in order to ensure full protection on women's right

3. Political Participation
Women are under represented in policy making in the Balkans. Without a seat at the table, women don’t have a say in crafting legislation, negotiating peace talks or shaping agendas for future reform. One of the aims of this conference is to establish a collaboration of the already politically active women in the Balkans to commit, so in future elections a woman who already is in the parliament or on the political scene will support/mentor another woman to get a seat at the table.
